Hi my name is Angie Hogan and I own, direct and operate Tenderheart Childcare and Preschool. I am currently the lead teacher at the Preschool and I have the pleasure of working with our oldest Preschool group. I started Tenderheart in 1990, teaching my oldest daughter and her friends the skills they needed to be ready for Kindergarten. I had a natural connection with children and I enjoyed being a part of their growth. Teaching and connecting with children just came easy for me. As my own family grew, (I am pretty proud of my 3 children and 5 grandchildren) so did Tenderheart, changes were made to accommodate children of all ages and I began studying child development. As time went on and my own children outgrew child care and preschool, I started focusing my attention on the philosophies behind childhood and quality early childhood environment settings. I compared them to my own experience with children and I started operating Tenderheart on a new level. This was an exciting time for me because I realized I wasn’t providing child care because I didn’t know what else to do but because I still truly loved working with children and I couldn’t see myself not working with children in some way. Now that I am older, I realize that I cannot do this job alone as I once did. Since I strongly believe children should have their first learning experiences in a comfortable home like setting I began hiring and mentoring others teachers that have a desire to support children and families in a home learning environment. I have an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and Family Studies. I am always continuing my education and setting new professional goals. Everyday I work at making Tenderheart the best possible place for children to be when they cannot be with their families. I believe the energy I put into supporting the teachers, the children and the families is evident when you step into Tenderheart and become a part of our family. Creating a loving and caring environment for all of us is a huge job but together I believe we make it possible.
I live in Estacada with my loving husband who I have known since junior high school and was my high school sweetheart, and Maddy “Mad Dog” our 145 pound St. Bernard. I enjoy traveling, reading, being outdoors, kayaking, hiking, gardening, raising chickens and ducks, making honey and goat milk soaps, and cooking. Most of all I enjoy being with my husband, wonderful children and my grandchildren.
I am honored that you have considered Tenderheart and I look forward to getting to know your family.
Hello Tenderheart Families-
My name is Jessica Morden and I am the head teacher at Tenderheart’s second location (also known at T2). I grew up in the original location, worked as a live in caregiver for United Cerebral Palsy, went to college and was volunteering at Tenderheart. In April of 2010 I was hired as the full time assistant. In October of 2012 Angie and I decided to expand and open our second location, it was up and ready for our first day with children at T2 on November 2nd 2012. I spend a lot of time and hard work on T2 and am very dedicated. I have helped to make it a safe learning environment where children can be comfortable, feel loved, be silly, and work at becoming independent when they are ready. I love playing and so we do a lot of learning through play at T2. Although we have a mixed philosophy program, play diffently leads the way for us each day.
I am currently furthering my education through community based training at through joining cohorts, attending conferences, and taking Child Development Associate college courses. I have my Associates degree in Marketing and Management. I spend my free time with my daughter and husband, playing soccer, coaching a children’s soccer team (with my husband), cheering on the Portland Winterhawks, walking my dogs, hiking, camping, travel, and I love to bake and cook in the kitchen! I also love exploring my own almost 11 acres of backyard at my home in Estacada in the George neighborhood.
I cannot wait to meet and get to know you and your child. I have a passion for children and love being with them, I love seeing and helping them learn and grow.
Around these parts I am known as Mr. Gene. I grew up in Oregon City and I have been married to Ms. Angie since 1990. I have been involved in Tenderheart from the very begining. I worked for a window and door company for 23 years and then eventually bought the business with two other business partners. In 2013 I changed my life’s direction. I have always been the go to guy around Tenderheart fixing this and that and constructing Ms. Angie’s creative ideas. I work with Jessica (my daughter, who is also my supervisor) at the infant and toddler house, most days. But you will still see me at both locations of Tenderheart. My education comes from my personal experience of raising my 3 children and being a Papa to 5 awesome grandchildren. I attend workshops, conventions, and other professional development trainings year round. In my free time I enjoy traveling world wide, scuba diving, hiking, walking my dog, going to the movies, and Micro brews!
I am a natural morning person and I am always ready to greet every child with open arms and a smile. I always have a shoulder to lean on and a big hug to give away. I am lucky to get to enjoy the little things in life that adults don’t find time to do in their busy day; like reading the same books 10 plus times a day for several months, singing silly songs, playing with lots of messy stuff, playing in the rain, stomping in puddles, painting every possible surface reachable, and the serenity of naptime. I am amazed by the changes that I see happening with these children everyday and I cherish the moments I share with them, because before you know it they are all grown up.
